Wampler Captures Top 10 in Return to Red River Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - WICHITA FALLS, Texas (Aug. 10, 2014) - Cody Wampler returned to Red River Speedway last Friday with the intention of improving on his top-five result during his first career visit last month.

And following his heat race Wampler appeared to be on the way.

"I went pretty decent up on the top and made some good laps in the heat race," he said. "I probably took the lead on the fourth or fifth lap. We just ran the cushion on both ends. The two guys who were ahead of me were running the bottom. I felt pretty good going into the feature."

After maneuvering from third place to win his heat race and earn a spot in the feature redraw, Wampler pulled the No. 1 to start the 20-lap feature on the pole.

"We really tightened the car up a bunch and it didn't respond too well," he said. "We just weren't very good. I got stuck in the middle the first three or four laps and actually spun it out. I was running second then. I looped it around so I had to go to the back."

Wampler was forced to restart last on the slick track and he struggled to find forward bite.

"There wasn't really anybody going anywhere," he said. "We passed a car or two. It's really dusty and I didn't see the flagman give us the five laps to go sign, the two to go or the white flag. We got a caution on the last lap. I went up to the top to test it and I banged the thing into the wall. I rolled it over on its top so it didn't end so well."

Despite the late tip over, Wampler was credited with a ninth-place result. It marked his fourth top 10 of the season.

Wampler will take this weekend off before returning to action with a pair of ASCS Lone Star Region events on Aug. 22 at Red River Speedway and Aug. 23 at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla.
